You’ve heard the discussions about which wines pair best with what foods, and you enjoy a glass of good wine with your dinner – but how much do you know about the process that transforms a mere grape into a fine wine? Your next trip to North Beach Plantation is your opportunity to answer that question, with a fun and informative wine tasting at Duplin Winery!

Duplin Winery is a family-owned and operated winery best known for its sweet Muscadine wines. Their award-winning wine lineup includes nearly 40 different styles, covering the spectrum of whites, reds and rosés, all of which are available at Duplin’s location on the Grand Strand.

But a trip to Duplin Winery – located in front of the Barefoot Landing shopping and entertainment complex, less than a mile from North Beach Plantation – is more than just picking out a bottle of wine to go with dinner. It is a chance to learn more about the wine-making process in general and, in particular, the Muscadine wines that are produced from the native grapes of the Carolinas.

Throughout the day, Duplin offers wine tastings hosted by its knowledgeable and friendly staff members. A tasting includes samples of 10 different wines, complete with a tasting sheet providing information about each wine, and on which you can note your thoughts about each wine as you taste it. Gourmet crackers and a delicious cheese dip are also on offer. At the conclusion of the tasting, you can choose your favorite from among the wines you sampled and enjoy a full glass while relaxing in the beautiful outdoor courtyard. You even get to take the glass itself home as a souvenir!

The selection of wines on the tasting sheet rotates approximately every six weeks, so even if you’ve already visited Duplin Winery, a repeat trip may prove to be a whole different experience.

Wine tastings are offered daily, except for Sundays, when the winery is closed. The price of a tasting is only $10 per person, a great bargain. A wine tasting is a fun and relaxing way to spend an afternoon if it’s cloudy or cool, or if you just want to do something a little different on your vacation!

While you’re there, you can also take a tour of the winery facility. At the Grand Strand location, visitors can see the wines being bottled using the same by-hand process used when the winery first opened back in the 1970s. The Myrtle Beach winery also includes a large retail store. This isn’t just a wine shop! Visitors can also browse clothing, Duplin Gourmet delicacies and fun wine accessories, in addition to enjoying one of the winery’s cool wine slushie treats.

Of course, the shop also offers the full selection of Duplin wines, including the award-winning Hatteras Red, a North Carolina favorite and the perfect choice to serve with your Southern barbecue, and the Scuppernong, a white wine that is the oldest wine made in America.

Whether you are a casual enthusiast or a wine connoisseur, a “cool, sweet and easy” afternoon spent at Duplin Winery is a great addition to your next stay at North Beach Plantation in North Myrtle Beach.
