Molto Bene! Italian Festival coming to North Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Landing

Heading to North Beach Plantation for an early May getaway to North Myrtle Beach? If you also love Italian food, the Italian Festival May 3-5, 2013, is a great way to enjoy some freshly prepared treats from “The Boot.”

The Italian Festival will be held at Barefoot Landing in front of the Alabama Theatre from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Thousands of attendees are expected at this annual event, which is in its 21st year. This is the first year the event will be held at Barefoot Landing.

The festival, hosted by the Sons of Italy Myrtle Beach lodge, will be the spot to try delicious Italian treats, from iconic Italian pastries and desserts (can you say cannoli?) to Italian treats such as sausage and meatballs, as well as beer and wine.

Emcee Larry Tanelli will offer up trivia and prizes, and attendees will be entertained with live music from international vocalist Natalie Pinto; Tom Bongiorno performing a Neil Diamond salute; Dale Mosher, who will perform Italian songs; DC Clark and the Hats with R & B and Motown music; the Coastal Carolina University’s CCU Singers; and the Grand Strand Harmony Chorus.

The free festival will also include arts and craft vendors, a pasta-eating contest hosted by Villa Romana restaurant, a display of Italian Ferraris and Maseratis and activities for kids, such as face painting, games and inflatables as well as an Italian heritage center.

“The Heritage Center is our way of presenting the many towns and cities where our members come from, while presenting a bit of history through maps and pictures,” said Thomas Spada of the Sons of Italy Lodge.

Barefoot Landing is also a great place to explore, with plenty of shopping, entertainment and dining opportunities, including: the Mole Hole collectibles; Lids headwear; Ultimate California Pizza; River City café; and TBonz Gill & Grill. Barefoot Landing is located less than a mile inland from North Beach Plantation along the Intracoastal Waterway.
