Each year as the holidays near, the Grand Strand begins to show signs that Christmas is approaching. The temperatures begin to drop (a bit, anyway), the festive, red-and-green Christmas decorations begin to pop up on area storefronts and in local homes, and — marking a uniquely Grand Strand tradition — the area’s entertainment venues begin to present their annual holiday-themed shows.

Among the area’s most popular and longest-running Christmas shows is the South’s Grandest Christmas Show at the Alabama Theatre, which has been voted the area’s No. 1 live theater attraction and can be found just blocks from The Cottages at North Beach Plantation at shopping/dining/entertainment hot spot Barefoot Landing.

As always, this year’s edition of the South’s Grandest Christmas Show will offer an impressive collection of talent, an array of eye-catching holiday scenery and some amazing special effects. Grab your loved ones — and even (perhaps especially) any holiday Scrooges you might know — as the award-winning holiday musical is sure to fill everyone in attendance with the Christmas spirit!

With a focus on using song and dance to relay the true meaning of Christmas and the joys of spending the holidays with family, the musical presentation and Southern theatrical tradition combines customary Christmas classics and contemporary holiday favorites to keep Grand Strand locals and visitors tapping their toes, singing along and coming back year after year.

In addition to this year’s musical performances, comedian Ricky Mokel will also be featured in the 2018 rendition of the South’s Grandest Christmas Show. The renowned purveyor of clean, family comedy has entertained nearly a million kids and adults over the past several years at the Alabama Theatre with his “lovable, gifted idiot” act.

The evening filled with song, dance and laughter may even include another special guest that the kids in the audience are sure to love. We won’t totally give away the surprise by name-dropping here, but a hint: A jolly old elf who has an affinity for red suits and arrives via a reindeer-powered sleigh has been known to make regular appearances at the production.

The South’s Grandest Christmas Show is set for near-daily presentations (and twice-daily presentations on select dates) throughout the months of November and December. To get a sneak peek at the show and to plan your visit/purchase tickets, visit alabama-theatre.com.
