Myrtle Beach Calendar of Events for April

Springtime marks the start of the festival season on the Grand Strand, and this year is no different. From free concerts and fireworks shows to several arts and crafts events highlight the Myrtle Beach social calendar this spring. Here’s a list of some of the many fun events this month:

* April 3-16, 12th Annual Seacoast Artists Guild Spring Art Show & Sale: Check out the works of some of the region's top artists at this showcase at the Seacoast Art Gallery in Myrtle Beach. Paintings and other works will be on display and available for purchase, and many of the artists are on hand to chat.

* April 9, Myrtle Beach Pelicans' season opener: Join more than 5,000 fans in welcoming a new team to town at Field across from Broadway at the Beach. The Class A Pelicans join the Chicago Cubs farm system this season with high hopes for a return to the Carolina League championship series. Postgame fireworks are among the many special events scheduled for the evening.

* April 10-19, Horry County Fair: After a long hiatus, the Horry County Fair returns to a new venue at Myrtle Beach Speedway for carnival rides, tractor pulls, animal and agricultural displays and much more. The 10-day event culminates with a free concert on closing night.

* April 11, Back Home Again: A Tribute to John Denver”: The Long Bay Symphony Orchestra translates such popular hits as “Country Road” and “Rocky Mountain High” by the late, great John Denver. The show will take place at the Myrtle Beach Performing Arts Center at Myrtle Beach High School.

* April 11-12, 43rd Annual Art in the Park: Browse the works some of the top artists and craftsmen on the East Coast in the scenic setting of Chapin Park in downtown Myrtle Beach. Paintings, woodcarvings, jewelry and glasswork are among the many media on display and available for purchase. Can't make this one? The same show will be held at Market Common on April 18-19.

* April 13, Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am: This popular fundraiser attracts some of the biggest names in golf, sports, music and entertainment to the Barefoot Golf Resort's Dye Course for some good times and sometimes bad golf.

* April 14, Fifth Annual F.L.A.V.O.R. Festival: The culinary event of the spring season takes place at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, where dozens of local restaurants prepare their best dishes for hungry patrons. Try sample-sized portions for the cost of $1 to $3 food tickets, including sushi, seafood, steak and desserts.

* April 18, April Music Fest: See live music on the outdoor stage on the premises of La Belle Amie Vineyard in Little River. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and sit in the shade or dance on the lawn. Food, beer and, of course, wine are available for purchase, and tours of the vineyard depart hourly.

* April 18-19, 43rd Annual Art in the Park: This popular event moves from Chapin Park to Valor Park in Market Common this weekend, when some of the East Coast’s best arts and crafts vendors display their wares in an outdoor setting.

* April 22-25, 10th Annual Myrtle Beach International Film Festival: Independent filmmakers and fans invade the Broadway at the Beach's theaters for screenings and seminars. Up-and-coming and undiscovered talent and acclaimed critics are on hand for this event.

* April 30, 18th Annual Juried Art Exhibition: The Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild’s annual spring showcase features some of the area’s top artists putting their works on display for critical judging. Meet the artists and learn their inspiration at this open event.
