Named an official federal holiday in 1894, Labor Day was created to honor the countless contributions that the American worker has made to our nation. And, of course, the best way to celebrate a holiday recognizing Americans’ hard work is to do as little work as possible — ideally by spending the long weekend relaxing and enjoying some quality time spent off the job.

On that note, in the American Southeast, there are few better places to do just that — and to send your summer off in style — than along the Carolina coast on the Grand Strand. To make your planning for the three-day weekend worry-free and as simple as possible (not to mention to have the best choice of available accommodations), consider booking your stay at North Beach Plantation on the North Myrtle Beach oceanfront today — then get ready to enjoy some of the following fun activities and events set to be held in the area over the long holiday weekend:

Fireworks and Family Entertainment: The Grand Strand skies will light up one final time this summer with a pair of fireworks shows scheduled in the Myrtle Beach area over Labor Day weekend. At the Barefoot Landing shopping/dining/entertainment complex — which can be found less than a mile from North Beach Plantation, just across North Kings Highway from the resort — the season finale of the SummerFest entertainment series will bring live music (including the Paul Grimshaw Band at the Dockside Village amphitheater), roaming entertainers and other family-friendly activities on Friday, August 30. And on Saturday, August 31, the Craig Sorrells Project will bring the tunes at the amphitheater at 7 p.m., while later at 10 p.m., the complex’s Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Display will bring the booms high above Barefoot Lake and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Farther south at Myrtle Beach hot spot Broadway at the Beach, Saturday will see the season finale of the Great American Summer Nights entertainment series, which is set to feature a long list of family activities like face painters, dancers and other strolling entertainers; then the season-ending Labor Day Fireworks Extravaganza will be presented over Lake Broadway on Sunday at 10 p.m.

More Events — Long holiday weekends always seem to spur a spike in the Grand Strand events calendar, and Labor Day weekend 2019 will further that trend. On the Thursday evening (August 29) leading into the long weekend, Chocolate Chip will get the crowd moving with Top 40 hits at the Music on Main Concert Series in North Myrtle Beach. On Sunday, September 1, the Boathouse in Myrtle Beach will wrap up its summer Sunday Concert Series with Saving Abel performing alongside the Intracoastal Waterway in “the Best backyard in Town.” Later, Labor Day itself will mark the kickoff to the 18th Annual Mustang Week, which brings hundreds of Ford Mustang owners and enthusiasts together for car shows, cruise-ins, races and more at hot spots throughout the Myrtle Beach area. Additionally, farmers markets are set to be held at Myrtle Beach’s The Market Common, as well as in Conway and in Georgetown.

Water Parks and Amusement Parks: Labor Day weekend will mark the end of the summer season at many of the Grand Strand’s water parks and amusement parks — including Wild Water & Wheels, Splashes Water Park and Myrtle Waves — so visitors can get one last chance to experience the parks’ thrills and excitement before the attractions go into hibernation for the fall and winter.

After celebrating a Labor Day weekend for the ages on the Grand Strand, head back to your comfortable accommodations and wide-ranging amenities at North Beach Plantation to get some more rest and relaxation before heading back home to the daily grind. Book your Labor Day getaway today — and start planning an unforgettable holiday celebration on the Carolina coast!
