They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially when you are on vacation. Before spending a summer day on the beach or the golf course you need a lot of energy, so fuel up on a fat stack of pancakes, a fluffy omelet filled with tasty ingredients, fresh fruits or a hot breakfast sandwich.

North Beach Plantation guests are in luck as the surrounding area is lined with breakfast places and pancake houses where you can load up on a hearty and healthy breakfast. You might as well make it something tasty, and these five breakfast spots will leave you happy and ready to tackle another day in paradise:

Hot Stacks: Nothing too fancy here; just hot, fluffy piles of pancakes smothered in melted butter, maple syrup and a wide selection of fresh fruits, berries and nuts. But that's not all; this local chain breakfast and lunch restaurant has an extensive menu and serves breakfast all day. Hot Stacks has a first-meal menu that includes omelet options, eggs with bacon, sausage or ham, breakfast sandwiches, hash browns, Belgian waffles, crepes, grits, biscuits and gravy and a whole lot more. The friendly service and homey feel make Hot Stacks a great place to start your day.

House of Blues: The Barefoot Landing theme restaurant only recently began serving breakfast daily, and the HOB makes an authentic Southern-style breakfast with all the fixings. But the first meal of the day gets kicked up a notch with the weekly Sunday Gospel Brunch. Featuring live gospel music and some of the most talented singers on the Grand Strand, the HOB puts out a spread of both breakfast and lunch favorites, from biscuits and gravy to prime rib and jambalaya. It's good food for the body and soul.

Mama Jean's: This North Myrtle Beach institution has been serving hungry locals and tourists for generations. Serving delicious Southern-style breakfast along with a generous helping of down-home hospitality, Mama Jean's puts out a spread of breakfast classics on the buffet as well as an extensive menu for specific orders. Mama Jean's makes a lot of great dishes, but is best known for its grits. If you sleep in you can still order breakfast late or enjoy a nice lunch instead. Either way, you won't leave hungry.

Southern Sunrise Pancake House: The sign out front proudly proclaims to be “The Best Breakfast in North Myrtle Beach,” and it's hard to argue. Southern Sunrise offers an extensive menu of breakfast favorites so everyone in your party is sure to find what they are hungry for. Try the Kings Omelet, an overstuffed three-egg monster filled with lots of meats and vegetables, or the Georgia Pecan Pancakes, three fat and flaky hot cakes filled with pecans and topped with melted butter and hot maple syrup. Waffles, fresh fruit, French toast and grits are among the many tasty offerings at this hot spot.

The Shack: Formerly known as the Biscuit Shack, a North Myrtle Beach institution for more than 50 years, this new version features an updated menu but also embraces the house specials from the past. The new owners might have cut the “Biscuit” from the name, but not from the menu as the hot and flaky favorites are served alongside all the country breakfast classics, like scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns, pancakes, grits and gravy. Located on Sea Mountain Highway, this place is also a popular hangout among the locals and a good source of information about good fishing holes and community gossip.
