What cool things can I do on cool days in Myrtle Beach?

First, what do you consider cold?

Some visitors from points north of Myrtle Beach would think nothing of frolicking in the waves in January. Others would wear a parka. Fortunately, there’s something for everyone – of all cold tolerances – to do on the Carolina coast in cooler-weather conditions.

Often, the activities you love at Myrtle Beach are good to go any time of year – you just might need a hoodie and knit hat to enjoy them.

Also, there are plenty of activities you can partake in indoors in Myrtle Beach this time of year. And a beach trip is a beach trip. It’s likely to be a sunny day, even in the winter. And whether you dig the aquarium or have a favorite calabash restaurant – or both – you’re set.

What’s winter like in Myrtle Beach?

December highs in the mid-60s and lows in the mid-40s. Sounds like paradise. Even in January, temperatures don’t drop much (the mid-50s and upper 30s), making for comfortable daytime activities and perfect excuses to retreat to a warm spot for dinner and drinks later. There’s rarely a hard-freeze night in Myrtle Beach.

Not sure what to do when it’s cold at the beach? Try these activities

Visit Alabama Theater

What an amazing show – whether it’s your first time or 20th – at Alabama Theatre.

Without a bad seat in the house, this venue is wonderful for indoor entertainment. The Christmas show will put you in the holiday spirit. Everything is top-notch, from the show to the talent to the costumes and sets. You’ll have a blast here!

One The Show gets rave reviews, and you’ll be dancing in your seats to a variety of music, from 60s pop to selections from your favorite musicals.

Visit Broadway at the Beach

A fun-filled haven, Broadway at the Beach has Ripley’s Aquarium (another strong suggestion for chilly days) and Dave & Busters, for fun games and hot eats, and lots of spots to stop for a drink and good vibes – the kind of place you can just come to chill, (and won’t want to leave!)

Honestly, a walk at Broadway might make you eager for spring to arrive! It just has that feel.

Try a mead tasting at Savannah Bee Company, and lunch at Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen(we recommend fried chicken and pot roast!)

Visit great restaurants in Myrtle Beach

Gulf Stream Cafe features amazing crab cakes among other coastal favorites, and you can’t beat the view of the inlet in this Garden City gem.

No matter which delectable pie you order, you’ll want to start with the pear dumplings at Ducatti’s Pizzaria & Trattoria. The lasagna pizza is pretty incredible, too.

Fire and Smoke Gastropub serves cocktails (the mojito is awesome) and a fantastic experience, appetizers (we suggest short ribs) to dinner (wild boar meatloaf) to dessert.

Visit Palmetto Moon Myrtle Beach Coastal Grand Mall

You’ll find just what you’re looking for at Palmetto Moon, with all your favorite brands and stores. It’s a good place for the family to walk around, either to window shop or on the hunt for great sales (you’ll get both!)

In Myrtle Beach, you can count on finding plenty of orange (Clemson) and garnet (South Carolina) for game day, too.

The clothing selection is phenomenal.

Visit Pirates Voyage

A popular dinner theater, Pirates Voyage includes an extraordinary show and splendid food served expediently that will leave you full and satisfied.

You’ll get wonderful service and see some of Myrtle Beach’s top talent (human and otherwise!). The kids will love the theme if you go during the holidays, and the whole family will have a blast.  Families often come back year after year.

Visit Ripleys Aquarium

What a cool experience you’re in for at Ripley’s Aquarium. Penguins, sea turtles, and sharks make this a must-see attraction in Myrtle Beach. The Christmas tree exhibit and holiday feel make this a festive stop during your winter beach vacation.

You could easily spend an entire afternoon at Ripley’s. Winter trips to Ripley’s also afford you better access to so many wonderful exhibits than you might have during peak season.

Bundle up and get to Myrtle Beach

Dress warmly (in layers) and make your way to Myrtle Beach this winter for lots of fun. From stellar shows to sharks to ships of the pirate variety, there’s lots of entertainment around. Come on down when the crowds are a bit smaller but the fun is just as big as it is all year round.
