What is a Great Way to Spend September in Myrtle Beach?

It’s not exactly a secret: September in Myrtle Beach is pretty rad.

Rad, in that there are lots of activities to do still, some of the fun things you enjoyed all summer, in fact. But the temperatures cool just enough to keep you happy in the sun without feeling the heat as much as you would in July.

Vacationers in the southeast and beyond know this is a sweet spot in the calendar for a getaway to Myrtle Beach.

There’s a great blend of family-friendly fun, activities for couples, and excursions you can do by yourself if you choose.

What’s Myrtle Beach like in September?

In a word: Wonderful. Temperatures don’t often reach the 90s anymore, and a good 80-ish day feels like a day at the beach without wearing you down. Still, use sunscreen, of course. Midday activities are a bit easier, and the nights are pleasant, usually in the low 60s. Most travelers even find the ocean comfortably swimmable.

Grand Stand Events Happening in September 2020

POSTPONEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: A new September event has moved to the Spring of 2021. The Carolina Country Music Fest, featuring stars such as Eric Church, Luke Combs, Jake Owen, and Darius Rucker, will happen June 10-13.

Run to the Sun Car Show

(Sept. 24-26, old Myrtle Square Mall)

The 32nd annual show continues a grand tradition in Myrtle Beach. Best car and truck, for models pre-1989, get featured on next year’s official T-shirts. This charity event will benefit Children’s Miracle Network, Grand Strand Miracle League, Horry County Benevolent Fund, and National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The show donated $100,000 to charity from the 2019 show! This year, they’ll award $10,000 in awards and door prizes.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week Fall Rally

(Sept. 28-Oct. 4)

From Murrells Inlet to the Grand Strand, this is the traditional time and spot for motorcycle enthusiasts to gather for a second rally of the year. Participants meet for breakfast at Plantation Pancake House, then cruise the strip, revisiting old friends, meeting new people, and enjoying the beauty of a fall breeze on a ride. Riders often travel south to Charleston and north to Calabash to enjoy the region, and come home to roost in Myrtle Beach.

Hot Summer Nights at Plyler Park

(Daily through Sept. 6, 4-10 p.m.)

This family-fun event wraps up its summer in September with one last set of shows. Entertainment ranges from dance parties to karaoke to tropical-themed music. Plyler Park extends from SkyWheel to Moe Moons, right on the boardwalk, and close to the ocean. There’s plenty of shopping and snacking to be done on the boardwalk, too. Grab a cheesesteak sandwich and side of crispy fries at the nearby RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar.

Cornhole Tournament at Harley’s Roadhouse

(Thursdays through Oct. 29, 6 p.m.)

Nothing like some friendly competition on your Myrtle Beach getaway. Come toss bags in this tournament. It’s $10 an entry for the upper bracket (for those who average 2 in the hole each time), $5 for the second-tier, with cash prizes on the line. The double-elimination format gives you a little hope, even if you lose round 1! It’s open to all skill levels, and you don’t need a partner – they’ll pair participants by blind draw. Register at 6 p.m, throw at 6:30. Be there!
